Do You Really Believe in Christ?
A Very Sensitive Subject!!!

That Dog Gone Veil!

Years ago, I also was very blind to what I'd like to call, "New Covenant Truth."  Some are calling this the "Grace Movement" while others disparagingly call it "Hyper grace."  No matter what the tag is that is attached to what is going on in my life, I used to be totally blind to it.  I was so blind to it that I had a minor nervous breakdown as a result. ( I share what occurred during that time in my book: "The River is Here: My Journey Into New Covenant Grace" which can be ordered on my website: www.larrysilverman.com)

Therefore, when people reject the "Grace message" I understand where they are coming from as I used to reject it as well.  I feel that there are a few inherent problems that cause people to reject the "message."  I'd like to go over a few of them here....

#1.  People believe what they have been taught instead of what the Holy Spirit is saying through the Bible itself.  In the early days of my "Grace revelations" a man in our church got so upset with me that he and his family eventually leftour church.  However, just prior to his leaving he would tell me that several theologians do not agree with me either.  My response..."I don't care what their title is, if they are wrong then they are wrong!"  Of course this didn't make this guy too happy.  Again, most Christian's belief systems is based upon what they have been taught by others.  This poses no problem unless that teaching has been wrong.  And...the teaching in many churches has been wrong and has been wrong for hundreds of years.  Hundreds of years of wrong teaching is still wrong teaching!

#2.  Some people just can never be wrong!  Once their mind is made up to a thing then they are right no matter who stays they are wrong.  Many people defend wrong teaching for just this reason. Listen, if you are so set in your ways that you cannot even honestly look at some other options to your beliefs you are in serious trouble.  I have been told that there are no "new revelations."  How sad as our lives are filled with ongoing revelations of the Bible by the Holy Spirit!

#3. Modern Christians do not know how to "rightly divide" the Bible!  In my book I have the entire first chapter set aside to help people with what I call "The 4 Rules of Proper Bible Interpretation."  For instance, Rule #1 is, "Who is it written to?"  When I was a young Christian, just fresh in the faith, my pastor would teach, "Every word in the New Testament is written to Christians except just a few like John 3:16."  Friends, this is totally FALSE!  Often people will even take the words of Jesus and try to apply them to New Covenant life.  However, the truth is that even the words of Jesus, many of them anyway, were not written to you and I.  They were spoken to and eventually written to people still under the Law."  Remember that the New Covenant did not begin until the Blood was shed and poured out on the Mercy Seat in Heaven.

#4.  And lastly, at least for this blog post, is that "Dog Gone Veil!"  Please allow me to quote Brother Paul on this one.... 2 Corinthians 3: 12-18

12 Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold. 13 We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory, even though it was destined to fade away. 14 But the people’s minds were hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth. And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ. 15 Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand.

16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image."

Some people are so caught up in the Law or Old Covenant life that they just cannot see the truth, no matter what!  I've recently had some conversations with people who still believe that the Law of Moses is still in force today.  One guy recently told me that the New Covenant is not for today at all, it is only for the Jews when they come into realization of who the Messiah really is.  Man!  And of course this guy and the others cannot see it any other way!  They just are totally blind to the truth! I do think that the Veil that Paul spoke of is doing a lot of great damage in the Body of Christ today!

Some have quoted verse 16 to me in telling me why I am so wrong in my teachings, "I have turned to the Lord," they say.  "I have been saved 30 years and I am OK!" might come from their lips.  However, the "turning to the Lord" that Paul is speaking of is not just salvation!  It is a complete belief system that is based upon the completed works of Christ, what we call His "finished works."  For instance if you believe that you are still a sinner, still have the capability to sin, then you have NOT properly "come to the Lord!"  You are still living in Old Covenant Land and have not entered fully in all that God as given you in the New Covenant!  I realize that this statement will create debate, but I challenge you to really pray about it.  Really cry out for wisdom and revelation from the Holy Spirit.  Now some will do that, but many will not, because no matter what, I am wrong and you are right!  OK...I trust that you are enjoying that Old Covenant life of yours.  I trust that you are not eaten up with fear, shame and condemnation like I was!

The Good News is just that.....GOOD NEWS!  That is the Gospel that Paul preached and that is the Gospel that I preach too.  I am watching people becoming totally transformed as a result. I am not giving people a "license to sin" as I am so often told.  I am bringing people to God, there they are righteous, holy and perfect and have no more interest in dumb, stupid works of the flesh!

All I can say to this is....Glory!

Grace and peace!
