I believe that we are living in exciting times! The Holy Spirit is revealing truths that have been set aside for hundreds of years and the Church is reaping great benefits as a result! Some of these revelations, the majority of them are spot on. However, there are some that fall short of absolute truth. I don't want to get into all of that in this post, suffice it to say, that the ones that fall short usually seem to be, what I call, "stretching the Bible." Many today are not so certain about the Bible. I hear things like, "There have been a zillion denominations in the world and they have all stated that they get their doctrine from the Bible." Some are saying that today we are no longer interested in doctrine. They are simply stating that whatever the Holy Spirit is showing you is OK.
Up front, please hear me when I say, I love my Bible! Some state that, "The Bible is not the Word of God, Jesus is!" How about that....I fully agree! However, even here I have to throw out an interesting verse of the Bible...I Thessalonians 2:13, "Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his (Christ's) teaching FROM US, you didn't think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as THE VERY WORD OF GOD-WHICH, OF COURSE, IT IS. and this word continues to work in you WHO BELIEVE." To be honest, I've never heard anyone do any teaching on this subject. Paul was not speaking of every word found in the Bible, but rather the words that Christ, the Living Word, gave to Paul to pass on to his followers, of which you and I are!
As far as doctrine goes, Paul states this, "For a time is coming (today?) when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching (doctrine KJV). They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths." I think there is a whole lot of "myth chasing" going on these days!
I've stated this many times before, but in the early days of God releasing His wonderful revelations of new covenant grace to me, I heard, very clearly, many, many times, "Preach the message that Paul preached!" Where is that message found? You guessed it, in my Bible! The Holy Spirit took the words of Paul and made them light to my spirit. As a result I have been transformed. Now, I'm sure that the Holy Spirit could have shown me grace without my Bible, but He didn't have to as He used a tool that He has already provided me!
The problems with all the denominations isn't the Bible's fault, it's theirs! They never learned how to properly interpret the Bible. Like my pastor of days gone by used to say, "Every word in the New Testament is for the Church except John 3:16." Well, he was wrong! Dead wrong! Every word in the New Testament is not written to you and I, living in the new covenant, who no longer under the Law. Even many of the words of Jesus, found in the four Gospels are not written to you and I. They were spoken to men and women of Jesus' day, who were still living under the Law. You and I are not there. I repeat...we are not under the Law! If you are a Gentile, you were NEVER under the Law as it was only for a few people living over 2000 years ago, and to put yourself there can only be done by not properly interpreting the Bible!
I am so thankful that God has given us the Bible for today. I hope you are as well! Together, we can learn how to use this precious tool that God has given us and hold onto truths that are in no ways myth!
Grace and peace!
