Most likely, if you are reading this Blog you already are a Christian. That is you are a "Believer" in the Lord Jesus Christ. Actually I know many people who are "Believers" in Christ as Savior, but in fact, they really do NOT truly believe in Christ. Again, I could be accused of spreading a lot of double talk here. But the fact remains that many people know Christ as their Savior but do not really believe in His finished works!
Please allow me to explain! Over the past several weeks I've been teaching on "New Covenant Rest" in our church in Citrus County, Florida. (New Covenant Grace Fellowship) Four of those message videos can be found under Podcasts on our web page: www.ncgrace.com. In last Sunday's teaching I quoted from Hebrews 4: 3a, (NLT) "For only we who believe can enter his rest." I stated in my teaching that I believe that this is one of the most mis-understood verses in the Bible. I know many, many Believers in Christ who seem to remain millions of miles away from living in God's rest. Here is why....here is the problem....They are Believers in Christ, for salvation but are not believers in the finished works of the cross.
We teach a lot about the finished works of the cross in our church. Knowledge and revelation, followed by faith in what Christ has already done for us is the only true way we will ever enter God's rest. Why? Because if we do not understand Christ's finished works, then we will forever be trying to work things out for ourselves. In other words many Christians are taught that they have to strive to be righteous and holy in order to please God. However, few are taught the New Covenant truths that God Himself has made us righteous and holy and our only remaining thing to do is to believe in what God has already completed for us through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Here is some Scripture on the subject:
2 Cor. 5:21 (KJV) "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
Hebrews 10:10 (NLT), "For God's will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time."
Hebrews 10: 14 (NLT), "For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy."
And... I could go into a lot more Scripture. However, these say enough for me! Glory!
So, the question remains, do you believe in the finished works of Christ or do you just believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior? Friends, this is a very important question! I trust that you can see the difference!
"So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God's rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest!" Hebrews 4: 9-11a (NLT)
Grace and peace!
