Do you REALLY Understand the New Covenant?

I have found that people who have been Christians for a long while usually stumble at simple truths that they think they understand, but really do not understand.  Revival is one of these areas.  I get so frustrated when I talk to people about revival.  They think just because they are saved, have been baptized in the Spirit years ago, have seen a few miracles in their lives that they live in revival and that they do not need anything new or fresh.  The attitude, "I've done that, been there and bought the t-shirt" is one of the most destructive mind sets that anyone could ever have.  Often we hear from pastors, "I don't need to be revived cause I'm a pastor!"  Ouch!  This is such a false assumption!

I've been preaching and teaching a lot about the New Covenant at New Beginnings Fellowship in Hernando, FL. (www.nbfhernando.com)  I really, really, really want my people to fully understand what it means to live completely in the "Rest of God!"  As I've been teaching from Hebrews chapter 4 and many other places, I've observed some of my peeps looking at me like deer looking into the headlights of a car.  "Rest for the people of God?"  They just don't get it!

So Sunday morning as I was teaching more on this subject, and I told the people of NBF that when Paul was writing about communion in Hebrews chapter 11 and he said in verse 31 that we should "examine ourselves" before we partake of communion so that we would not be, "weak, sick and even die," that he was not talking about looking for all of our hidden sin, etc, but rather that we should examine ourselves to see if we really truly have the revelation of the New Covenant, which is Colossians 1: 27, "Christ in you is the hope of glory!"  Wow!  When I live in the revelation of the New Covenant I truly live in the rest of God that Hebrews chapter 4 speaks of.

Why do we make Christianity so difficult?

I'm a Different Kind of Pastor!

Several years ago, during ministry at a worship event in Pittsburgh, a young man sat down with Corinne and I during a lunch break.  He told us he liked how free we seemed when we ministered, and then proceeded to tell us a very sad story.  This young man seemed very excited about the things of God and this became very evident as he shared his tale.

Several months prior, the young man sensed a real burden for reaching the lost of his area, especially in the neighborhood where his church was located.  He felt that the Holy Spirit had given him a plan on how to reach out, bringing people to decisions for Christ.  He felt to share this plan with his pastor, hoping that the pastor would encourage many in the church to get involved.  The pastor was not too excited about it and said that he would have to pray about it (a pastor's kiss of death!) and take the plan to the church board.  After a few weeks the young man was informed that he was not allowed to implement his plan within the church as he was not an "official member" and had not taken the churches "evangelism classes!"

Over the 12 years of ministry on the "Highway to Revival" I can't even begin to tell you the times that I've heard sad stories like the one that young man shared! Each time we would hear such an horror story, my blood would boil a little more, and a conviction would come into my heart...If ever God would call me to pastor a church again, I sure know how I would NOT do it!

Now 2 1/2 years ago I find myself in a "pastor role" once again.  Ouch... I thought I'd been delivered from that!  Corinne would always get on me when I'd tease my pastor friends, "I've been set free from pastoring a church, now I just travel around, going from church to church, creating trouble for you all!"  She would say to me, "Be careful what you say as the Lord might call you back to a local church again!"  Yes, here we are, "back in the saddle again!" so to speak.

However, if the truth were known, I have been delivered from the traditional role of a pastor.  First of all, my primary ministry calling is not that of a pastor. (Ephesians 4: 11, 12)  Secondly, I have been delivered from the role of a pastor! Now that may sound confusing to some.  Like how can I be the pastor of a local church, in this case, New Beginnings Fellowship, in Hernando, Florida (www.nbfhernando.com) and be, "delivered from the role of a pastor?"

The answer is simple.  I am not a TRADITIONAL pastor.  OK, let's look at Paul's words to the Ephesians...

Ephesians 4:11, 12

Amplified Bible (AMP)

11And His gifts were [varied; He Himself appointed and gave men to us] some to be apostles (special messengers), some prophets (inspired preachers and expounders), some evangelists (preachers of the Gospel, traveling missionaries), some pastors (shepherds of His flock) and teachers.  12His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), [that they should do] the work of ministering toward building up Christ's body (the church),

So you see, my job description is to fully perfect and equip the Saints so that they do the work of "ministering toward building up Christ's body (the church)."  My job is not to do the traditional "pastor thing" but to raise up others to do it!

So, I love my job!  I get so fulfilled when I watch our people ministering!

Here's a small example of how I'm doing my job:  This past Saturday, our church was asked to perform a small memorial service for a lady who had visited us and liked our church.  I brought a salvation message to a group of about 30 of her family and friends.  In my message I used a story that I often use in situations like that. It was neat as 3 people prayed and made decisions for Christ.  When my part of the service ended I sat in the back with one of our young guys, Trevor.  Trevor was working the sound booth at the time, and I felt to put my arm around him and tell him to remember that story as it works well in funerals and when people have great needs for God in their lives.  I told Trevor, "You might need that story when you are preaching funerals yourself!"  See, I see a lot of ministry within Trevor, and I feel to teach him, mentor him, work with him, all of the time praying that Trevor will go on and be far more successful in ministry than I ever would be!

My job is that of a coach!  I'm not the "Pastor King" of NBF.  No, I'm just Larry, loving and coaching my people as they go forth and do the work of the ministry!

How about it... Does this ring any bells with you?

New Beginnings Fellowship is a different church, that's for certain!  We have said, "No!" to tradition and are doing the best we can, not perfect yet, but the best we can, at following the New Testament model of ministry.

Yep, again, I say... "I love my job!"

Revival and the Small Church!

Recently, Nathan Morris, the evangelist leader of the Bay of the Holy Spirit Revival, located in Mobile, Alabama, was blocked entry into the United States by customs officials.  Nathan is a citizen of the UK.  A few years ago Revivalist Todd Bently fell into sin and a powerful move of God, The Lakeland Outpouring, was brought to a crashing close.  Thousands of people have been powerfully effected by these moves of God.  I recall attending the Lakeland meetings and stood in line for nearly 2 hours, with about 8000 people, awaiting a touch on my forehead as Todd Bently prayed for me.

I've been told that what is happening in our small church in Hernando, Florida is not true revival. The reason stated is that we don't have lines awaiting entry, we do not have a packed building, etc.   If I recall correctly, the most we had in attendance last week when Dominic Sola was ministering was 70.  I believe that if everyone who calls our church home would be in attendance on Sunday morning, we'd have about 100 there.  Yes we are a small church...but I have to also add, we're growing!  So, in our typical American, commercial Hollywood mindset, what is happening at New Beginnings Fellowship in Hernando, Florida isn't really revival!  It truly saddens me to think that people have such a narrow mindset.  What's the answer then, bring in the Hollywood Revivalist?  That's pretty hard for a small church to do.  And besides, REVIVAL IS MUCH GREATER IN A SMALL CHURCH THAN IN A LARGE ONE!

Please take a look at a couple of pictures taken from last week's meetings:

Dominic Sola #4 008

Dominic Wk 3 015

Now do you realize who is NOT ministering to the people here? You may not know Dominic Sola, but he's not in these pictures!  For that matter, I'm not either.  I'm taking pictures, while the people of New Beginnings Fellowship, actually the Revived people of New Beginnings Fellowship are ministering to those in need!

According to Ephesians 4: 11, 12, my job is to equip and release others to do the work of the ministry.  We're doing that at NBF.  I can take pictures while my Brothers and Sisters are busy healing people, bringing them into deliverance... yes, they cast out demons too!

Here's a strong statement, but I'll stand by it... If you base revival on the ministry of one person, you are doomed to fail!  The days of A.A. Allen, William Branham, Jack Coe, Oral Roberts, and the list continues... are over!  That model of ministry is done!  It is actually an "old wineskin" model.  People standing in line and getting a 10 second touch on the forehead by Rev. Billy Bob, superstar of the God is Lord TV Network is being replaced by a giant wave of people, being apostolic-ally equipped and released to not just have powerful meetings, but to advance the mighty Kingdom of God!

I tell people all of the time... you have needs come to my church and I'll turn my people loose on you and you will go home a changed person!

So, if you are reading this, and you still feel that only the packed conference center, with the big named TV preacher, with the lines a mile long, are the only place to find revival, then I feel sorry for you as you are missing what God is really up to!

Yes, the small churches in America are ripe for revival!  Pastor you don't have to send your people to the large conference center to get them revived... Let the Fire of God fall on your group.  You may be a house church, a small building with less than 30, or a larger one with 100... seek the Fire of God!  It fell on the First Church with only 120 people!

If you need any help, give me a shout. I'd love to help you out!  More Lord!

This week's meetings at New Beginnings Fellowship in Hernando, FL are Wednesday and Friday ngihts at 7:00 p.m.  For more information: www.nbfhernando.com

Why I Love My Church...

Our church, New Beginnings Fellowship in Hernando, Florida (www.nbfhernando.com) has been in a powerful move of God for 100 weeks now. Corinne and I have been here for nearly 2 1/2 years  and after 12 years of traveling "The Highway to Revival" we find it refreshing to see true revival breaking out in the place God called us to.

We do not consider it strange to see revival fires falling on our group, as that is why we came to Florida in the first place.  We expected God to move powerfully, as He'd already shown us some of his plans for Citrus County and for the rest of Florida.  Yet the excitiment within us continues to build as we watch a small, struggling, nearly failed church, rise up out of the ashes of dispair into a regional dynamo, only due to the power and grace of our loving Daddy.

Last night we began our 3rd week of meetings with Dominic Sola.

 Dominic Wk 3 009

Once again God showed up and just totally baptized us in His love!  The end result was people all over the floor, tears flooding faces and lives being totally and forever changed!  Take a look at this pic!

Dominic Wk 3 011

I get totally thrilled when I even think of what God did last night!

But the real reason I love my church so, is how God is raising up the people of NBF to do the work of the ministry!  Guess how many people I prayed for last night?  Well, if you came up with the answer "0" you were totally correct!  I didn't pray or minister hardly at all.  Dominic and his wife Nomi prayed for a few.  Corinne prayed for a couple of gals, but the vast majority of the ministry was done by NBF Saints!  Look at this pic:

Dominic Wk 3 015

Look at them go!  Wow!  God is raising up a dynamic group of people in little Hernando, Florida.  And I love every minute of it!  I am seeing my people come into their own... my job is to establish, release them into the work of the ministry.  I get out of the way and just enjoy watching my Brothers and Sisters and the Holy Spirit move in the lives of those in need!

Yep... I love my job!  I sure do!

One last pic... I kinda think that this one says it all:

Dominic Wk 3 014

Those are real tears in Sister Cathy's eyes!

I hope that you can get a little feel for what I'm trying to communicate with you today!  Sometimes it is so hard to bring what I feel in my heart out into words that make any sense!  But... alas, I try!

Kingdom blessings!

Know Those Who Labor Among You!

Special note:  Let me know what you think of my new blog design.  I often get bored of everything the same, and I've used the old blog template for qute awhile now. This morning I felt..."Give it a change!"

This template is titled, "The River at Night."  I kinda like it as it reminds me of being on my Florida lake at night.  Note the moon (The Holy Spirit)  lighting the way down the River of God.  The bird just could be an eagle flying down God's River in search of it's divine destiny.  Hey, that could be me! So hit the little "comment" button below this post and tell me if you have any problems reading this or if you like or don't like it.  Thanks ~ Larry

It is so hard for me to believe, but Corinne and I have been off "The Highway to Revival" for nearly 2 1/2 years now.  OK, you are right, we've never left the spiritual "Highway to Revival" as our hearts crave, actually burn within, for more of God's Revival Fire to fall on us and all we know and work with.  However, we now have settled well into accepting the roles of Senior Ministry Leaders of one of Florida's dynamic churches.

Our church, New Beginnings Fellowship of Hernando, Florida (www.nbfhernando.com) this week began our 100th week of when the Holy Spirit fell on us, transforming us fron a small, rural church to a dynamic powerhouse, where the Spirit flows powerfully every time we meet.

I feel that I cannot take too much credit for what God is doing in our midst.  After all He told me he was going to do it even before we actually took over the church.   However, I do feel that He sent Corinne and I here because in our hearts we are Revivalists and that will never change, no matter how long we take on the role of pastors!  Does this make any sense?  God sent Revivalists to this church and this community because His desire was that He release true revival on both the church and community!

As we traveled, for about 12 years, we would often contact a new church/pastor about having us in for meetings.  Often the pastor would say something like, "I'd love to have you in for ministry, but after all, I don't know you!"  Then the pastor would likely follow up with Scripture to back his/her prior statement, "After all the Bible does say, 'Know those who labor among you!'" Sometimes the pastor would tell us that they would pray about having us in, and when we heard that we would know that we had just recieved the kiss of death!  That door was forever shut!

I always found the "know them that labor" bit very interesting, as it does say that in the Bible.  Here's the exact quote:

1 Thessalonians 5:12

King James Version (KJV)

12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you."

Hoever, Here is the exact quote, again King James, taken in context:

1 Thessalonians 5:11-13

King James Version (KJV)

11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

 12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves."

OK, let's take this a step farther and look at the Amplified Version of the same passage:

1 Thessalonians 5:11-13

Amplified Bible (AMP)

"11Therefore encourage (admonish, exhort) one another and edify (strengthen and build up) one another, just as you are doing.

12Now also we beseech you, brethren, get to know those who labor among you [recognize them for what they are, acknowledge and appreciate and respect them all]--your leaders who are over you in the Lord and those who warn and kindly reprove and exhort you.

13And hold them in very high and most affectionate esteem in [intelligent and sympathetic] appreciation of their work. Be at peace among yourselves."

Please note that this doesn't even hint at not having strangers in a church to minister!

Please allow me to close here, as this is a very important topic to me and I could go on forever.  The bottom line is.... Pastor, if you want true Revival in your church, invite a true Revivalist in to minister.  Even if you do not personally know them, bring them in anyway and watch what God does for you!  If you do not know who to call, I can help.  Contact me personally and I'll suggest some proven men and women who know what Revival is all about.   Who knows, I might even be interesting in stopping by myself! Wow... that might be fun!

Be blessed and Lord... let Your River flow to all who read this today!

Reflections on 100 Weeks of Revival...

It seems like yesterday when the Holy Spirit fell on New Beginnings Fellowship in Hernando, Florida.  However, it was actually 100 weeks ago!

So many of today's Christians link revival to the famous TV preacher filling up the local convention center or largest church in town.  Then there are those who liken revival to 3 nights of good meetings, maybe each Spring or Fall.  We found many doubted that our church was in true revival because we were not having thousands of people flying in and standing in line for hours.  So many seem to doubt that revival fire can fall in a small church in a small town, downtown Hernando has two stop lights!

Yet there are no words available that can fully describe what has taken place over the past weeks.  God's Fire has falling in a small church in a small West Florida town!  We have observed many people dramatically healed of physical ailments, including stage 4 cancer.  We've seen lives foever changed as people renew their love for the Lord as He has drawn them in for more.

When I first met Sister Angela, she was a shy, inhibited single mom.  A few years earlier she had gone through a dramatic divorce and was still suffering the effects.  Angela was faithful to church and seemed to enjoy our ministry, but I often could see her hurt in her eyes.  Yesterday (Sunday June 5), during worship, I had a ball watching Angela ministering to others who came up to the altar area to woship.  She had such an anointing on her that she was almsot shaking.  I viewed a bright glow all over her as she laid her hands on those she was praying for.  The bottom line is that I observed a revived Angela fullfilling her divine destiny!

I wish to thank all of the guest ministers that we've had in over the past 100 weeks.  I am so blessed to be able to say that we've had some of America's best ministry in Hernando.  They all added something to the pot of revival that the Holy Spirit is stirring here!

Also, as a Senior Ministry Leader, I'm thrilled to see my people get involved in ministry.  Our meetings are not the typical "One Man Show" of revival.  No, at NBF the people do the work of the ministry and together we are advancing the Kingdom of God.  When a person with needs walks into the door of our building, many gifted and anointed people jump into action.  It seems to work best when I get out of thier way as they are all so filled with God that I'm not needed.  I just stand off to the side, observing as a pround papa observes his young son hit his first home run in Little League baseball!

So, come to Hernando, Florida this week!  You might be surprised by what God does in a small church!  Also, this week Wednesday - Friday Dominic Sola will be ministering!

Happy 100 weeks of revival New Beginnings Fellowship!
